1. Ciao Ristorante
Where: Kuala Lumpur
Best For: A Western wedding with Italian flavours
KL’s oldest Italian restaurant is also an ideal place to have an outdoor wedding, thanks to its convenient location and ‘escape in the city’ ambience. The charming Venetian country house offers a lakeside view as well as the iconic KL skyline, lending your event a breathtaking view your guests will not soon forget.
A beautiful western styled ROM is possible at @ciao_ristorante_kl. Their beautiful glass house is ideal for hosting intimate wedding ceremonies! There are several configurations to choose from depending on the size of your event. With a capacity to fit 300 seated guests, the Canopy option is the most accommodating in terms of size, but Ciao also offer smaller rooms for more intimate parties, such as the Glasshouse which doesn’t compromise on the beautiful views of the venue and surrounding greenery.
Considering its proximity and location, its combination of Italian charm, intimacy and romance is hard to top in KL.
2. Enderong Resort - Janda Baik
Best For: Romance in the mountains
Enderong Resort lies approximately 45 minutes away from KL and could be the place to have your nuptials, if rustic romance is what you’re after. Flanked with towering trees, Enderong Resort sits 2000ft above sea level; a highland sanctuary with cooler temperatures that make for a welcome reprieve from the searing heat of the city.
The entire compound has been constructed to take full advantage of the beautiful mountain views, and if your guests are looking for somewhere to stay, Enderong itself can host up to 58 guests at a time.
The resort’s Annexe Hall has a maximum capacity of 80 seated guests and is marvellous for closer, intimate weddings. It feels like a supersized cabin in the woods and details such as tall timber pillars and glass panels and doors will allow you and your guests to fully take in the beauty of the surrounding foliage. The high ceilings and expansive verandah also serve to add to a feeling of down-to-earth grandeur—abundance without pretention.
3. Suffolk House
Where: Georgetown, Penang
Best For: History buffs and colonial architecture aficionados
The ex-residence of Francis Light and other British governors, Suffolk house stands as a glittering example of colonial architecture. Built in 1800s; Malaysia’s only surviving Georgian mansion garden house is furnished with original Anglo-Indian antiques and feels like a slice of history has survived into modern day Penang. It’s been so popular that it has won a UNESCO Asia-Pacific Heritage Award and has been featured in the UK’s Channel 4 production Indian Summers.
Take advantage of the historical house’s beautiful lawns by staging your nuptials under lush raintrees which lend an organic richness to the venue. The best part? Marquees offer the chance for you and your guests to dine alfresco in a truly unique and special atmosphere that will last all night long.
4. Lone Pine Hotel
Where: Batu Ferringhi, Penang
Best For: Garden Weddings
Situated in Batu Feringghi along the coast of the Andaman Sea, Lone Pine Hotel’s sweeping fringe of casuarina trees and seaside sparkle lend a magic that you may not find anywhere else. Guests can enjoy all the colours and splendour of a beautiful Penang sunset under the canopy, creating an unbeatable backdrop for your nuptials.
Lone Pine started off as a family run hotel and retains some of that old-world charm in its original 10 rooms, which still exist to this day. Marrying both the old and new, Lone Pine might just be the place you’re looking for if you’re looking for a beachfront venue that comes with the charm of yesteryear with the look and feel of a modern five star establishment.
5. The Andaman
Best For: Exclusive Beach Weddings
Nothing says ‘idyllic’ quite like a luxurious beach wedding. Nestled amongst Langkawi’s abundant natural beauty, it offers both the lush beauty of rainforests on one side and the enduring beauty of the rocky seafront on the other.
Its isolated location grants privacy and exclusivity, and you and your guests will be able to enjoy an intimate celebration away from the pressures of a wedding in the city, as well as enjoy the resort’s numerous luxurious facilities. Allow yourself to be whisked away in the breathtaking beauty of its white sandy beaches against the canvas of an untouched skyline.
6. Gita Bayu
Where: Seri Kembangan, Selangor
Best For: Rainforest romance
A former rubber estate, the pet-friendly Gita Bayu has since been remodelled into a low density residential area. Its rustic and organic vibe is well suited for couples looking for an earthy, enchanted forest aesthetic. Its Floating Pavilion is a distinguishing feature, but bear in mind it is small. If you have an intimate party, don’t let this deter you though, as it does allow for great picture opportunities. It can get hot, so it might be a good idea to provide fans and parasols for your guests while your ceremony is taking place!
If your party is larger, your guests can convene and enjoy their meals in the split level Kebun Mimpi clubhouse, where they can gaze out at the rich greenery from the shelter the clubhouse provides. Smaller group? Take advantage of the smaller dining pavilions and soak in the wonderful sights there.
7. Shangri-La Tanjung Aru
Where: Kota Kinabalu, Sabah
Best For: A Celebration in the Tropics
For our friends on the other side of the country, or for any couple looking for a taste of paradise further afield, consider Shangri-La’s Tanjung Aru resort. Its award-winning gardens might just be the place to exchange your vows.
Its towering trees provide auspicious gravity to an already momentous occasion while the quietly shimmering waters of the South China Sea act as the perfect backdrop to your special day. Alfresco dining is on the menu here and guests can enjoy Shangri-La’s five star food and service against the beauty of a watercolour sunset.
8. Glasshouse at Seputeh
Where: Taman Seputeh, Kuala Lumpur
Best For: Industrialist Chic
We’re kinda cheating with this one, but allow us to explain! As the name suggests, Glasshouse at Seputeh is a triple story bungalow space comprising floor to ceiling glass panelling and, uniquely, an indoor garden complete with trees—so you get the best of both the indoors and outdoors.
The beauty of Glasshouse is that it offers an endless number of possibilities for your dream wedding. Dress it up with lighting and your own personal touches and it transforms into anything you want it to be – it really is one of those spaces which takes on conceptual design so well.
Sleekly designed with an open format, its versatility is its strong suit, allowing your imagination to run wild whilst having the potential to accommodate a large number of guests (up to 450, seated). It doesn’t skimp on view of the surrounding foliage of the Seputeh hills, and the best part is, your guests can take it all in in the comfort of a fully air-conditioned venue.
9. Puncak Dani
Where: Genting Highlands, Pahang
Best For: Nuptials with a regal, European feel
About an hour away Kuala Lumpur lies Puncak Dani, a sprawling two storey bungalow that overlooks the Awana Golf and Country Club. Needless to say, the views are immaculately maintained with lush, verdant grass surrounding the estate. There’s more of that on the estate too—its lawns provide the perfect backdrop to any garden party, and if you ask us, the fog you sometimes get in Genting only adds to its out-of-Malaysia feel.
Such a beautiful & lovely #wedding reception at Puncak Dani Lodge with @joycethefairy . Themed The Great Gatsby, it was so much fun on this serene evening with a gathering of love between family and close friends under twinkly fairy-lights, hand-crafted cocktails, lovely food, fantastic live music and a very groovy after-party! Congratulations @christine.mah & @mahvincent !! May you both always be blessed with #love & happiness. #herecomethemahs #afairyandavamp
Its baroque interiors offer plenty of great photo ops for your guests, while those who wish to stay outdoors and enjoy the cool mountain air of Genting are free to do so under the dusky lights of the canopies. Its spacious grounds can accommodate up to 200 seated guests outside, where they can also take advantage of the cooler temperatures and dance the night away without sweatin’ up a storm in their wedding attire!
